A talk of war

Now the reason of this post is due to a very important historical event in the 60's series, Vietnam war or intervention as some veterans call it. Now to introduce those who know little of this, during the 60's tensions between the US and the Soviet Union had been escalating drastically, both super powers had high ambitions and wanted to reach the top before the other could ever hope to. This lead to the space race, the advanced evelopment race and other types of unimaginable races. Those two nations were competing on every single front possible, this lead them to have sort of an undeclared implicit war, which was the Cold War.

So you are probably reading this questioning yourself on what was or is a cold war? Well to sum it up in a less complex way, what is our typical wars like?
Lets label down the things we do:
1. Mobilize ships and planes.
2. Send troops.
3. Fight the enemy at their home or ours until someone wins.
That's basically a typical war, now the cold war has its special name since we are missing the third thing we do in a typical war in that case. The diference with the cold war was that there was no type of fighting between US and Soviet Union in their backyards, in fact it was in the backyards of other nations.

Now you are asking yourself who the hell would let two superpowers duke it out in their country? The answer is no one, no one would willingly allow such thing, in fact not even the superpowers would if you would leave it to them, but what would happen if a nation is suporting the dictatorship of another, providing money and armament?  To make this a bit simpler, lets compare it to having a debt. Now there are two kinds of debts moral and economical, out of both of them which do you think is easier to pay off? The easier one is economical, you owe someone a buck well you pay them back, it is much easier than paying back someone you owe your life to. This same logic is applied with Vietnam, The Soviet Union provided it with assistance of any type in order for them to get another "ally", but as this happened the US was in their corner realizing that the more territory the enemy gets the harder itll be to beat them. The only way to beat them there would be to support a minority rebel faction and instead of providing them with guns and training like the soviets did, the US believed that if you leave the job to monkeys they will throw poo at eachother, so they sent troops. This is basically the Vietnam War.

Well, to be honest the Cold War is much more than just Vietnam, hell it was a massive fight that pushed the worlds biggest super powers to their witts end. This means it is to wide to cover, but for this blog post I covered the general idea of it, basially the physica fights were mosty just like Vietnam. Also the reason why I covered this is due to one of the main characters in the series becoming a soldier and he was leaving for Vietnam. Back then, most citizens didnt realize what going to that war meant, while some did, like that cristian teacher who was against it, others realy didnt inform themselves on what was going on behind the wire and just followed patriotism. Honestly I believe in the right of a human knowing what is he or she risking their life for, but sometimes the ideal belief isnt fit for the reality, for now this was just A Talk of War.

  1. I didn't know that was what a Cold War meant, thanks for the update. I find it very well expressed how you explained and therefore, easily understandable.

  2. As I read this entry, I could only see pictures in my head of what is being described. Also, I find the language was used appropriately. I didn't know either that was the meaning of what a Cold War is, so that information was very useful.

  3. Being a fan of history, the Cold War is one of my favorite time periods (I think I'll say the same about every period). The Cold War was such a complex thing, in modern times it is portrayed in a very black and white way - a war between freedom and liberty against oppression and dictatorships, but the truth is that both sides committed as many atrocities as the other side (which was supposed to be "evil" one). For example, USA supporting South American dictatorships and coups while the Soviet Union turns Afghanistan into a secular and equal country. Things like that really tell you that the Cold War is much more than democracy vs communism or freedom vs oppression.
